Glorious are the songs we have heard, and if we sing for Jesus, that will help us in the day of trial. I well remember Philip Phillips, the singing pilgrim, leading an immense audience to sing years since:?

"I will sing for Jesus,
With His blood He bought me;
And all along my pilgrim way
His loving hand has brought me.

"Can there overtake me
Any dark disaster,
While I sing for Jesus,
My blessed, blessed Master?

"I will sing for Jesus
His name alone prevailing
Shall be my sweetest music,
When heart and flesh are failing.

"Still I'll sing for Jesus.
Oh, how will I adore Him
Among the cloud of witnesses
Who cast their crowns before Him!

Oh, help me sing for Jesus,
Help me tell the story
Of Him Who did redeem us,
The Lord of life and glory."

The best of all songs are the songs of Zion. Let us praise Him for enabling us to pass through some trials, and ask Him for strength for the future. There are Siren voices that would draw us aside to the music hall, or theatre; don't listen. A minister whom I know, and who is fond of music, was warned by a loving mother never to let his love of music lead him to the theatre or music hall. Once coming by Drury Lane Theatre, he stood to listen to the sound, when, his mother's warning voice sounding in his ears, he heard no more, but walked on.

There are trials of all kinds that come upon us, even upon children. Most are fond of sweets, and if there is an opportunity of quietly helping themselves unseen, how powerful the natural appetite appeals. To another who did not care for sweets it would be no trial at all. The grand question ever should be, "Is it right?" If not right, resist; don't yield to the temptation. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

It was the first temptation to Jesus. When He had fasted forty days He was an hungered. What a sharp thorn is hunger! Do we wonder when children are crying for bread at their parents' grief ? What an affecting cry for parents to hear, "Oh, I am so hungry!" It is the natural appetite; and this is the way the great tempter approached Jesus, wanting Him to turn the stones into bread. So we see He was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin. To go through a trial and overcome makes us stronger for the next.

"Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin,
Each victory will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue,
Look ever to Jesus, He'll carry you through.

Ask the Saviour to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you,
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through."

Jesus was "led of the Spirit into the wilderness." Let us be sure we are led, and not running into temptation. Peter rushed when he went to warm himself. What business had he there? What!
