Chapter 3 - Progress and
Poverty -
From Poverty by James Platt
This chapter looks
at the theory that poverty is a result of progress - a view to be
expected in Victorian Britain, with rapid change being experienced
due to the ongoing Industrial Revolution. The equivalent today would
be the change in working practices and wage levels brought on by
the Computer Age. The theory is attributed to Henry George in his
book "Progress and Poverty." This book is still in print
today and is available on Amazon.
