sunrise "the doctor," from its cooling and refreshing influences in clearing away the infected air. What an illustration of Mal. iv. 2: "The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings." How like this refreshing breeze is Christ when He Shines into any heart. His beams of light drive out the darkness, and shine into every crevice, cleansing and purifying. "He is the Doctor," yea, more; He is the "Great Physician of souls," who "cleanse from every impurity and renovate."

Has He shone into your heart? Have you felt his healing beams? As the morning flowers open receive the beams of the sun, so may your art, like Lydia's, open to receive "the light of the world."

There are "variable winds" caused by local circumstances, such as the figure of the country. Forests or tins, mountains or valleys, seas or lakes, surrounded high mountains, are dangerous, caused by the air rushing through the valleys. The lakes of Cumberland and Westmoreland in our own country, Killarney in Ireland, and the Lake of Galilee referred in the Gospel, are peculiarly subject to them. Hence the storm on the lake, and the dismay of disciples, although hardy seamen, exclaiming, "Lord, save, or we perish." Amid the howling storm the Lord of winds and waves rises from His pillow, and with the majesty and authority of King exclaims, "Peace, be still." And in an instant calm followed, the surface of the lake is ruffled, reflecting the stars and cities on its banks. We have the "simoon" or hot wind of the desert.
