kind earnest, words of some teacher, or some address in the Sabbath School, some text or letter, or the death of a friend, and a change is seen - a great change, a complete turning round. A new life, before sinful, now striving after holiness, loving what they hated before, and hating what they loved before; the thoughtless and frivolous are thoughtful, the prayerless are prayerful, the rebellious meek and gentle. Reader, is your heart renewed, your pride of heart humbled, your sin subdued, your soul comforted ? If so, you possess a calm and a peace you cannot find words to express, but you know that joy and peace are yours. You may not be able to argue on the evidences of Christianity, but like the blind man you can say, "Whereas once I was blind, but now lean see." I know I possess joy and peace, and it has all been brought about by the mysterious operation of God's Holy Spirit. Various are the operations of the wind, so of the Spirit of God. David says in a Psalm, "He restoreth my soul." We often see in picture-dealers' windows "Pictures restored;" and as an example a picture is exhibited, |
